The twin villages of Wroxham and Hoveton sit either side of the meandering River Bure. Together known as the capital of the Broads, this community is the heart and hub of boating holidays on the Norfolk Broads.

We then make our way to Horning for our afternoon cruise on The Southern Comfort, a luxury river cruiser which runs from the beautiful village of Horning, along the River Bure through the village and out to Ranworth Broad and back, passing lovely old thatched houses, windmills and Norfolk reed beds. Throughout the trip an interesting commentary provides an exciting insight into the area and continual identification of the water birds seen on the broad. There is an ever-present bustle of river traffic with cruisers, yachts and the occasional wherry.

Banham Zoo

24 October 2018

Banham Zoo is 50!

When Harold Goymour retired in 1952 after selling a thriving bakery business and bought a farm in Banham as a country retreat, with a view of enjoying country life with his wife Ethel, who would have thought that what started as a mixed livestock, arable and fruit farm would evolve into one of the UK’s most well-known zoos and major tourist attractions in East Anglia. It had small collection of ornamental pheasants and started to take in exotic pets when they grew too large for peoples homes the first of which were two Canadian timber wolves, three Australian dingoes and a Himalayan bear.

The Zoo welcomed its first paying guests in 1968 and now, 50 years later, Banham Zoo is an award-winning family attraction and one of the most exciting wildlife locations in the country, with over 2,000 animals from around the world and set in 50 acres of beautiful parkland and gardens.

So, join us with a visit to a very special part of the Zoological Society of East Anglia, Banham Zoo
