Flatford Mill & Suffolk Food Hall

25 May 2023

Enjoy beautiful countryside and riverside walks. Flatford lies in the heart of the beautiful Dedham Vale. This charming hamlet was the inspiration for some of John Constable's most famous pictures, for example, the Hay Wain or Boatbuilding near Flatford Mill among many others. Wandering beside the River Stour or looking at Flatford Mill and Willy Lott's House you can feel as if you are actually walking through one of his paintings.Probably one of the most compelling reasons to visit Flatford is to discover the views that made John Constable famous. Early records describe a mill involved in fulling cloth and it was called Flotfordmelle. For nearly 100 years from 1742 to 1846 Flatford Mill was owned by the Constable family. It continued as a working mill untill 1900 when it became a private residence. In 1943 the mill was acquired by the National Trust and leased to the Field Study Council.

Why not give us a call and come explore for yourselves and enjoy the countryside air, and their tearooms.
We will then go off to Suffolk Food Hall where you can buy yourself something to eat their or for your dinner later.

Suffolk Food Hall is delighted to be the best Local Food venue in the UK & Ireland as judged in the Countryside Alliance rural oscars comparing all winners from the last 10 years! As Suffolk farmers, they are proud to provide you with much of the fantastic food produced locally. A host of activities at Suffolk Food Hall ensure that you experience quality, local, food with all its provenance, in everything that they do. Your enjoyment is extended with the Home & Garden department, lovely walks along the river in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a coffee in the Café, and the Cookhouse houses a unique on-farm restaurant.
